So Many Ways to Help Others This Fall
My friends,
EACH one of you is a member of SPL Hunger Warriors (aka Hunger Ministry & Mary’s Food Friends). One does not join Hunger Warriors; EACH one simply decides how much of his or her time, treasure, and/or talent he or she can give.
Here are some important ways that you can give this fall…
Weekly/Monthly Food or Money Donations
Foods that help us meet specific needs include peanut butter, toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, cereal, canned (with pull-tops when possible) chicken, tuna, sloppy jo’s, soup, fruit, SPAM, stew, wide noodles, oatmeal variety packs, Ramen noodles, any other food item and/or money to purchase these items.
New Area Food Pantry
According to the LCMS District Office, St. John Lutheran in Strongsville at 8888 Prospect Road is opening a Food Pantry on the Second Saturday of each month from 10:30 am to noon. We will do our best to assist them with meeting the needs of their community.
Matching Fund Drive
Hunger Network has a special one-month $39K matching fund drive to purchase a Food Rescue Truck to do more in Cuyahoga County in getting available food to hunger programs for people in need. If this cause excites you, please donate a little extra this month. Thank you.
Thank Our Veterans
Please attend, if possible, the Thrivent Action Team Veteran Thank You Card & Craft Making Event on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 10 am to 1 am in the St. Paul cafeteria. Mark your calendar to attend or stop by and gather supplies to make cards at home to celebrate the service of Veterans. One could also bring in snacks – crackers, cookies, chips, pretzels, cheese bites, Ho Hos, raisins, oranges, apples – to take to Valor Home in Lorain.
Calling All Bakers (and Shoppers)!
We need bakers & shoppers for the Thrivent Action Team Last Chance Bake Sale on Sunday, November 14, following the 8:30 am church service in the cafeteria. Please bring in Bake Sale items between 8 and 9 am for this wonderful opportunity to help feed others by sweetening our families.
Annual Underwear Drive
The 8th Annual Underwear Drive for the clients of Redeemer Hunger & Crises Center is underway! Watch for those Back to School Sales and pick up a couple of packages. This drive goes from Labor Day until Thanksgiving. As we all know, last year we were hindered by the pandemic, so let’s see if we can make up for it this year. We should be able to bring in 600 packages of underwear and socks for all ages, so let’s start next Sunday. Questions? Call Eunice Langner: 440-315-0973
