Weekly Update from Mary

Thank You

Friday, December 22, was the day selected to deliver Veteran Christmas/Holiday cards to the Louis Stokes Cleveland Medical Center Outpatients & Patients with two of Mary’s former St. Ignatius Graduate tutorees, Brian and Joseph LaVelle.

The excitement built as Chico and Mary along with Rob Poloha spent the week getting ready for the Samuel L. Felton Valor Home Card/Snack delivery in Lorain by Jim Johnston on icy Tuesday.

Thursday was the big push day with Bunny Swisher, Sharlene, Elliot, and Emerson Marty creating the 591 packets of cards, crafts, and Snowman Soup which had been prepared by Beth, Alexis, Angeline Eddleman along with Dorothy Louth to spread the grateful joy of Thank you for your service and have a blessed Christmas/Holiday Season with family and friends made by at least thirty volunteers.

The special Service Group Faithful Kids led by teacher Mara Evans from St. Paul Lutheran School made a fantastic number of cards that shared gratitude and love with so many veterans. The only downside was Mary not being able to walk all the halls of the VA with youthful vigor to deliver over 525 cards of Love, Joy, Peace and Thankfulness.

Our Last SPL Hunger Warriors Thrivent Action Team Event

The Dennis Wolf Peanut Butter & Jam Drive with a goal of 100 jars of Jam & 100 jars of Peanut Butter to benefit Redeemer Hunger & Crisis Center on West 30th Street in Cleveland will be happening.

Happy New Year!

The big excitement this past week was the SPL Hunger Warriors/Hunger Ministry/Mary Food Friends’ Packing Day, Wednesday, December 27, between 9 am and 3 pm in the St Paul Lutheran Church’s Luther Room and Narthex of 300 Shoeboxes and bags for the January 5 Epiphany Party at Redeemer Hunger and Crisis Center on Cleveland’s West 30th Street. The 21 dedicated packers got 300 boxes and bags packed and labeled in record time; it was all done by noonish. Each child is receiving a Bible book, dental supplies, mitten/gloves, hat, scarf, blanket, towel and washcloth, game, puzzle, stuffed animals, a camel to celebrate the Puerto Rican custom of Epiphany shoeboxes with some straw for the wisemen’s camels…

SPL Hunger Warriors is aiso giving each 0f our 24 food programs a monetary gift to kick-start their 2024 year of serving their neighborhoods.

Pray, Praise, & Give Thanks, Mary & Chico
