The Church Season of Epiphany
The Church Season of Epiphany which starts on January 6 is a celebration of Jesus as truly divine for all people as Wise Men came to worship Him and present gifts that cared for Jesus and His parents. According to research, “in most of the rest of European, Mediterranean, and Latin American countries, Christians exchange gifts on Epiphany—the day on which the Magi brought their gifts to the Christ Child. The day is often called “Three Kings’ Day” and is a public holiday in a great number of countries. In many Latin American countries, children write letters to the Magi, not Santa Claus, telling them what gifts they want. In Czechia and Slovakia, children dress as the three kings and go caroling and are rewarded with cookies. Children in Spain fill their shoes with straw for the three kings’ horses to eat and put them out on Epiphany Eve. The next morning they find candy and gifts in their place. Some countries have combined the gift-giving on both Christmas and Epiphany, often with smaller gifts on each of the twelve days of Christmas in between.” The Puerto Rican culture has children filling shoeboxes with straw for the camels of the Wise Men, placing them outside, and finding them full of gifts on Epiphany Day.
Westlake-Bay Village Rotary Club
Hunger Warriors and Westlake-Bay Village Rotary Club’s Epiphany Day Party at Redeemer Hunger & Crisis Center was full of joyful experiences as parents came and selected coats for their children and received boxes of gifts for their children. St. Paul members/friends and the Westlake-Bay Village Rotary Club members work all year to gather items to make the Epiphany Boxes full of wonderful learning experiences for children from birth to age 15. This year’s 3 Wise Men – David Snyder, Rob Poloha, and Bob Swisher – assisted the people in getting all the items to their vehicles. 2026 Rotary Club President Amy Kubacki and 2025 President Andrew Mangels with fellow Rotarians along with St. Paul members helped getting over 40 families and 100 children served and blessed with these wonderful gifts. This entire Epiphany Event emphasizes “Service Above Self” for all involved. The remaining boxes of gifts are given to Redeemer client families on the following Friday and Monday days of service. Due to this joint effort of St. Paul and Rotary, a special Valentine Party has been created to utilize the larger gift donations…God has blessed all our efforts abundantly!
Dedicate 2026 to be a great year
May all of the Hunger Warriors dedicate 2026 to be a year of prayer that God will powerfully use each one of us to meet the needs of the Hunger Programs we supplement and support through time, talents, and treasures…If anyone needs volunteer hours, contact Mary (440-871-7067 or marycaresmuch@yahoo.com).
